Colostrum Powder Usage Instructions

The best way to take colostrum powder is to just toss it straight in your mouth and eat it like any other nutritious food. If you like you can take a sip of water to help the powder saturate faster. A small amount of colostrum will stick to the teeth and gums and provide extra benefit as it dissolves there, such as increased sublingual absorption, direct protection against infection in the mouth, throat, and larynx, where infection often begins, and healing of the gums, other oral tissues, and the esophagus. Taking colostrum dissolved in a liquid, such as “liposomal delivery” colostrum that has the fat removed and replaced with lecithin to make it water soluble, bypasses all of these benefits. It should be noted that the fat in colostrum is not “just fat”. The fat contains active components, such as a group of lipids called gangliosides. Gangliosides participate in diverse biological processes, including neural development, pathogen binding, and activation of the immune system. (J Agric Food Chem. 2013 Oct 9) Lipids in the fat are also involved in the transport and absorption of various components of colostrum. The bioactive proteins of colostrum are resistant to stomach acid, and colostrum also mixes with saliva in the mouth to create a mucus-like coating that further protects it, additionally colostrum contains protease inhibitors which prevent colostrum from being digested. Nature perfected colostrum for an estimated 150 million years and without doubt nature got it right. The components of colostrum work together in dynamic harmony to maximize synergy. To remove any part of colostrum to try to improve it would seem unwise in the extreme. Regarding capsules, not only do they prevent exposure in the mouth, throat, and esophagus, but contrary to what capsule marketers might have you believe, colostrum in a capsule floats on the contents of the stomach until it dissolves there, and thus accomplishes nothing other than loss of the benefits described above. Put a capsule in a glass of water and you will see that it floats until it dissolves.

Best taken on an empty stomach at least 15 minutes before breakfast and again at night. The powder can be mixed in a smoothie or with a little applesauce or yogurt, however this may significantly reduce the benefits that occur from exposure in the mouth, throat, and esophagus. Although 1 or 2 tsp twice daily is generally recommended, feel free to experiment with usage amounts to find the optimal amount for you personally, up to a tbsp or more per serving, to increase healing, athletic, or anti-aging benefits.
